The Masons

Mike and Liz Mason are a dynamic Anglo-American team situated in Martindale, a rural community between Grahamstown and Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The Masons met on the Internet on Christmas Day 2001 and were married on May 2nd 2005. Together they have a wide variety of talents.

 

Due to our decision to move to the United States to be closer to our grandchildren we have decided to put our corner of paradise up for sale.

The land consists of two camps measuring a total of 7.3 Hectares and split by the road from Martindale to Peddie. Buildings consist of a huge 425m ² house which is tiled throughout, across the road is a 75m ² cottage with water, a geyser and electricity but that needs a little paint and some work on the kitchen. Behind the main house is a 150m ² workshop built of steel and with a smaller lockable interior workshop attached. The workshop is fitted out with single phase electricity. This workshop is ideal for someone wanting to start a small industry or even a retirement hobby.

Security is good - not a single problem in the nearly four years we have been in residence. Pineapples are free (when you know the local farmers) and there is often a Friday night get-together. We have a 24/7 Internet connection - I write for the Internet so this is vital.

This is a life style home with historic connections located 30 minutes from Port Alfred and 30 minutes from Grahamstown and guess what - on a clear day you can see the sea.

Biographical Information - Mike Mason

Educated at Bromsgrove School in the Worcestershire countryside in England, and later at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. Served an eight year Commission in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy as a Buccaneer Observer. Specialised as Air Warfare and Air Weapons Instructor.

Emigrated to Rhodesia in 1972 and served in the Department of Civil Aviation as an Air Traffic Controller. Married in Salisbury in 1981. Later served at Biggin Hill Airport, Johannesburg International and Abu Dhabi as Senior Air Traffic Controller. During this time I developed a keen interest in Theatre, appearing in several plays at Salisbury Repertory Theatre under the direction of Adrian Stanley.

I retired from Air Traffic Control in 1989 and took up a position at a large private high school in Johannesburg as Network Supervisor and Head of Computer Administration. Retired from this position in December 2005 and relocated to Martindale in the Eastern Cape of South Africa

I was divorced from my first wife in 2002 and married to Liz from North Carolina and whom I met on 25th December 2001 on the Internet. Liz and I have a small farm at Martindale in the Bathurst area of the Eastern Cape. I am presently helping Liz with the woodcrafts business, copywriting for the Internet and doing some web page design.

I have a 29 year-old daughter, Julie Anne, who is married to Jake and living in New Hampshire, USA and who was recently blessed with a beautiful daughter, Grace Mae (28.5.2005) and son Owen Michael (7.9.2007). My 32 year-old son, Michael jnr. climbs anything tall and vertical and will shortly be moving to the Eastern Cape.

Biographical Information - Liz Mason

I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in August of 1951. I lived in the same childhood house until about the age of 16, when I left home and traveled the US, living in Florida and California. I ended up later in life living in Colorado.

I have a daughter who is 34 and who was born in California. She is a model and an administration secretary for the SPCA in Colorado Springs.

My background is varied. I have been an exotic dancer in California, New York & Florida. I have been a model, fashion & jewelery coordinator, and was responsible for putting together the Ebony Fashion show back in the 80's. I have been a bartender, cocktail hostess and playgirl at the Playboy Club back in the late 70's. While living in Colorado, I joined the American Legion Auxiliary and worked my way up to become the President of the Colorado Department in 2001. I am very much a flag waver for my country. I was responsible for getting the flag displayed correctly on the Judge Judy Show. Even though I live in South Africa, I am still loyal to my country and will remain so. I am a trained Private Investigator and specialized in kidnapping, missing persons and dead-beat parents.

My hobbies now include, surfing the Internet, doing bead work, reading and meeting people. I enjoy entertaining at my home with my husband. I prefer to be doing work with my hands and enjoy working with wood. I design and build things from the wood. We have an entertainment center and an umbrella stand which I have designed and built for our home. My music interests are varied from the oldies to modern. I enjoy those quiet nights curled up in my husbands arms by the fireplace watching a good movie or Mike reading me his poetry.My husband & I met on the Internet in 2001. He is a British residing in South Africa. After about 10 months of corresponding electronically, I decided that we must meet and flew to South Africa on 11 October 2002. Mike and I finally got married 2 May 2005. We now have a beautiful home on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. I guess that one could say that I am living out my dreams.I started a wood furniture business and we do electronic research for others.
